I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:

SCULL [y] (Mulder’s partner in the TV series The X-Files = alien investigator), without the Y (mathematical symbol for an unknown quantity). Row, as a verb = scull = propel a boat using oars.
