I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:

PASS (slip away), with the P (p = abbreviation for Italian piano = musical term for quietly) moving towards the end of the word (south, in a down clue). Venomous snakes, which are cold-blooded creatures.
