Dropping off three characters in succession in channel (9)

I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Times for the Times have:

SOLENT (channel between Southampton area and the Isle of Wight), insert O N M three consecutive letters of the alphabet (in reverse order, but it doesn’t say so!) EDIT I see if you start with the M not the first O they don’t need reversing.
