I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:
CUT (trim) after A (from clue text), then EST (abbreviation for Eastern Standard Time, the time zone used in New York – but not at the moment because it’s on Eastern Daylight Time until early November). Acute = sharp, with the -est suffix indicating “extremely”.
