I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:

EGAD (an archaic expression of surprise, equivalent to “good lord!”) + LO (lo! = see!), all reversed (on retiring). Old age may be a second childhood for some people, but I think many would object to the characterisation.
