Great beer Ruddles initially promoted (5)

I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:

LAGER (a type of beer), with the R (the initial letter of Ruddles) moved a couple of places towards the front (moved upwards, in a down clue = promoted). For the surface, Ruddles was formerly the name of a brewery, and is still used as a brand name by the bigger company that bought it.
