Key bacteria finally found on dead mushroom (8)

I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:

Esc(=key, the Escape key) + [bacteri]a + late(=dead). Mushroom here is used as a verb e..g. to mushroom out of control.
