Object after evacuation of floor in university block? (8)

I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Times for the Times have:

END (object) after removing middle letters from (evacuation of) FLOOR in UNI (university) This was one of the only clues where I really had the wordplay wrong, but managed to see the answer from the checking letters. I think I thought the answer was going to be ‘object’, but then ‘after’ is really unaccounted for.
