I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:

N (abbreviation for new) + NOUN (part of speech, in grammar), within ACE (one, especially in playing cards) + D (abbreviation for day). Nice bit of misdirection for a word that usually means “homophone” in crosswords.
