I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:

ME (the writer, speaking personally) reversed (returned), then PLY (work, as in “to ply one’s trade”) containing O (zero). Employ can be a noun, a variant of “employment” = engagement.
