I haven't cracked this one yet — but the brilliant team at Fifteensquared have:
W (Whiskey in the radio alphabet), then RY [e] (American whiskey made from rye grain) without the last letter (not completely). The US spelling with an E is correct for both. As in wry humour = dry humour = a deadpan delivery in contrast to the absurdity of what’s being said.
